Strictly Sail Chicago has become an annual mid-winter tradition for local Chicago and midwestern sailors.

If you have attended before, you know what to expect. If you have not attended before, you should plan to go.

Here are a few brief items to look for at the show.

The Beneteau 40.7 Fleet and Chicago T-10 Class Association are among some of the racing associations represented.

The University of Illinois Sailing Club will be selling t-shirts to raise funds for sailing activities and competition in Midwest Collegiate Sailing Association (MCSA) regattas.

Hedlund Marine will exhibit four new LaserPerformance (formerly known as Vanguard) sailboat models, plus new Hobie and Gill sailboats. “This show will be the first time most of Chicago has seen an SB3″, according to John Porter, “and it is also the North American debut of the Bug, a new boat for juniors.”

Harken introduces the innovative new RigTune Pro digital tension gauge and new Black Magic MKIV Loop Block, AirBlock, Flip-Flop block and other designs.

13th ANNUAL STRICTLY SAIL CHICAGO OPENS ITS DOORS JANUARY 31 – FEBRUARY 3
Sailors Worldwide Gather at Navy Pier for Nation’s Largest Indoor All-Sail Boat Show

CHICAGO – Strictly Sail Chicago, the largest indoor sailboat show in the country, will be held January 31 – February 3, 2008 at Navy Pier. More than 20,000 sailing enthusiasts are expected to attend the four-day event to see the latest sailboats and sailing accessories on the market. Launched in 1996, Strictly Sail Chicago is an annual tradition for thousands of sailors meeting in one place to jump start the ailing season and check out the latest sailboats, gear and accessories.

The festivities begin Thursday, January 31st and will not end until the final bell sounds on Sunday, February 3rd. This four-day sailing extravaganza features the latest and greatest the sailing industry has to offer. You’ll find the latest boat designs and the designers, the newest sailing gear, accessories and hardware from the industries top suppliers and the most up to date charter information from more than 250 exhibiting companies from around the globe.

When: Thursday through Sunday, January 31 – February 3, 2008
Thursday and Friday: 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Saturday: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Sunday: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Features: A variety of comprehensive seminars, interactive displays and special events will be featured at Strictly Sail Chicago 2008. Beginners can learn sailing basics, while experienced sailors are introduced to new techniques and technologies. Sailing adventure cruisers, authors and experts will share their experiences at sea. Attendees are encouraged to bring children along to enjoy the Kids Club, an activity center designed for junior sailors to build their own sailboat models, draw “sailboats of the future,” learn knot tying and race boats in the makeshift “lake” on the show floor.

“Due to the increasing popularity of sailing over the past 13 years, the show has seen consistent growth in exhibitors, seminars and show features,” said Kevin Murphy, show manager. “Strictly Sail Chicago is designed to introduce the sport to sailing novices while providing seasoned captains with the latest and greatest in sailing information and products.”
