{"id":147,"date":"2008-04-18T05:25:00","date_gmt":"2008-04-18T10:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sailfastchicago.com\/2008\/04\/18\/earthquake\/"},"modified":"2008-04-18T12:44:28","modified_gmt":"2008-04-18T17:44:28","slug":"earthquake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sailfastchicago.com\/site\/2008\/04\/18\/earthquake\/","title":{"rendered":"EARTHQUAKE!!!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div align=\"center\">\n<img src='http:\/\/www.sailfastchicago.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/sailfastchicago_earthquake_neic_qza6_cy.gif' alt='Illinois Earthquake - April 18, 2008' \/>\n<\/div align>\n<p>This rare early-morning post is brought to you courtesy of the <strong>5.2 magnitude <a href=\"http:\/\/earthquake.usgs.gov\/eqcenter\/recenteqsww\/Quakes\/us2008qza6.php\">earthquake<\/a><\/strong> which woke us up today at 4:37 AM in Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the live map update of the USGS intensity report, based on questionnaire responses:<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/pasadena.wr.usgs.gov\/shake\/cus\/STORE\/X2008qza6\/zoomout.gif\" width=490 height=548 alt=\"Illinois Earthquake - April 18, 2008\" \/>\n<\/div align>\n<p>The earthquake from a sailing perspective-<\/p>\n<p>Boats already in the harbor should be safe &#8211; no tsunami has been reported. Boats on land stored in shock-proof cradles should also be OK.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<img src='http:\/\/www.sailfastchicago.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/sailfastchicago_northsailsweather.png' alt='North Sails Weather Forecast' \/>\n<\/div align>\n<p>Interestingly, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northsails.com\/\">North Sails<\/a> Event Weather Service listserver sent an empty email out to recipients within a few minutes after the earthquake. Note the tell-tale signature 1970 timestamp, an artifact which indicates the host computer time had reset or otherwise been lost, such as waking up from a power outage or other unplanned restart, very likely a direct result of today&#8217;s earthquake.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE<\/strong>  10:19 AM  &#8211;  <em><strong>Aftershock!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/earthquake.usgs.gov\/eqcenter\/recenteqsww\/Quakes\/us2008qzbw.html\">Aftershock<\/a> tremors rumbled buildings again here in Chicago around 10:16 AM. Loose objects mysteriously rattled eerily for a few moments, as if haunted by ghostly poltergeists, and settled down with no evidence or damage remaining.
